They are only just off the rare breeds list but still need there numbers up as could easily fall back down.
These are our first breed of sheep and they have such a great character they are kind, docile and extremely cute with their face full of wool. They are one of the oldest sheep breeds in Britain which originated from the Sussex hills. This is one of our sheep named Ethel she is the eldest, she always come for a cuddle and a tickle and has raised some cracking lambs over the years.
The Norfolk Horn originates from Norfolk on the sandy lands of the Brecklands. The number of Norfolk horn breeds fell to 1 flock 1919 but will the efforts of one man J D Sayer he bred them from extinction
In 1987 the breed was recognised by RBST (Rare Breed Survival Trust) on the critical category and now currently on the at risk list.
We are hoping to increase our small flock by introducing new ewes using our Norfolk Horn ram.
This breed is quite new to us they are currently on the at risk list as there are as few as 900-1500 registered sheep left, so we are trying to do our bit. This sheep originates from Dumfriesshire, Scotland on Sir Jock Buchanan-Jardine estate which is called Castlemilk and that is where their name comes from.
They are every protective mums and easier to lamb. The lambs are very lively and thrive very well in our meadow environment. They are the largest out of the primitive sheep breeds and their characteristic are brown with white mouflon markings of the face belly and legs not forgetting their horned sheep.
This is our Ram Bandit he was a cade lamb so he is very friendly born in 2021.
He has turned into a cracking ram definitely got the looks to go with it and he knows it.
